Dress Donations

One of the things that The Silver Hanger does is take dresses on consignment. This offers customers the opportunity to buy a new or gently worn dress for a great sale price and it offers ladies the opportunity to sell a new or gently worn dress and make a few dollars. Some of the dresses that we take on consignment, that do not sell, are given to a few organizations that collect dresses to be given to girls that can't afford to purchase a dress. Organizations like The Cinderella Project, Katy Christian Ministries, and The Prom Closet. The video in the next post is from channel 13 with Patricia Lopez, they highlight and give information about the Prom Closet. (They also talk about a program through JC Penneys and the YMCA)

Earn a Prom Dress

We have a new program at The Silver Hanger. You can register with us to be a SH REP (Silver Hanger Representative) and Earn a Prom Dress.

Here is how the program works:
The Silver Hanger will send you some Silver Hanger cards. You give the cards to your friends. The card gives your friends a 10% discount on a prom dress purchase. When someone makes a dress purchase and presents the card for their discount, you earn 10 points. You can earn up to 300 points. (300 points equals a $300 dress)

How to register:
Send an email to thesilverhanger@sbcglobal.net. The subject of your email should be "Earn a Prom Dress". The information that we need in the email is your name and complete mailing address. When you register we will assign you a SH REP ID# and we will keep track of the points you earn. We will send you The Silver Hanger cards to give to your family and friends.

Extended Hours

During the months of February, March, and April, The Silver Hanger will be open from 11-7 on Thursdays.

Regular hours of 11-5 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Regular hours of 10-5 on Saturday. (Closed on Sunday and Monday) You may still schedule evening appointments. Especially for brides, we recommend an appointment.

Both brands have dresses with sleeves and without sleeves. Both brands have floor length dresses and short dresses. Fabric selection includes satin, taffeta, and chiffon. Dress With a Wrap...

means matching fabric for a jacket. This fabric is taffeta, which is a perfect fabric for the jacket. It presses nice, for a very crisp look.

This wrap had a beaded edge on each end. Since the sleeve on the jacket was a short sleeve with a straight hem- we were able to keep the beaded edge of the wrap for the hem on the sleeve.

Long Dresses Made Short

We recently took two long dresses and made them short. We used the extra fabric to make matching jackets for the dress.

Think Out of the Box

At The Silver Hanger, we do more than just sell dresses- we "think out of the box". A customer found a dress that she liked, but she wanted sleeves added to it. So she bought two dresses, one to cut up to makes sleeves for the one she wanted to wear.

Stay tuned for more- I have two dresses this week that I will make jackets, using fabric from the bottom of the dress. Since short dresses seem to be popular this spring, we now have fabric from the bottom of the dress to use to make a matching jacket. Pics. coming later this week.
